Natalie Hughes BSc ACIEEM has over eight years’ experience in ecology. She has project managed and conducted ecological works on numerous projects within the private and public sectors that have included projects of varying scales on residential, industrial, infrastructure (including road and rail) and commercial development schemes. Her extensive knowledge of national and international policy and legislation for wildlife and planning has been used to inform her advice to applicants for planning permission.

Natalie is a skilled protected species ecologist, having undertaken species-specific survey work for great crested newt (survey license holder) including eDNA, badger, water vole, common reptiles, hazel dormouse (survey license holder), bats and otters. She is also highly experienced in mitigation techniques for a range of protected species, having implemented European Protected Species Mitigation licences for great crested newt and development licences for badger, and is an experienced Ecological Clerk of Works. As a Senior Ecologist for The Ecology Consultancy, Natalie helps to manage a team of 15 in the delivery of a range of surveys and technical reports.

In her spare time, Natalie is regularly involved in research and survey work with hazel and edible dormice voluntarily.
