The Ecology Consultancy has always been committed to nurturing talent in the industry, priding ourselves on the passion, professionalism, and reputation for excellence that our team (and past alumni) have shown within the field of ecology, whilst maintaining our unique and vibrant company ethos.
As part of our deep commitment to nurturing and developing our people, in January 2017 we launched The Orchard, our industry-leading employee development, up-skilling and mentoring programme, which equips employees with the technical and consultancy skills that they need to ensure they have a fulfilling, long-term career in line with their strengths and ambitions.
Investing in people
The Orchard invests heavily in developing employees through a performance development and improvement process which involves them working closely with their manager to set clear, achievable objectives and offering a diverse range of structured opportunities to help accomplish them. Whether through formal training, being mentored on a project or shadowing colleagues at work to developing the skills required for commercial awareness as well as taking the opportunity to enhance wellbeing and mindfulness, we support our employees to learn and develop at all levels to ensure they become better consultant ecologists.
Nurturing relationships
The programme is led by employees, for employees. We place great emphasis on building strong collaborative relationships between colleagues within and across disciplines and offices, working alongside each other to share knowledge, to come up with solutions together, to help each person to drive his/ her own development and to help managers to bring out the best in their teams.
Commitment to recognising achievement
The Ecology Consultancy’s on-going commitment to promoting and recognising professional achievement also includes supporting scientific and educational awards such as the CIEEM Promising Professional award which recognises the exceptional achievements of a Graduate, Associate or Qualifying CIEEM member in the first three years of their professional practice. The Ecology Consultancy is proud to sponsor the award for 2017.
Knowledge-sharing & training
Additional knowledge-sharing initiatives include a yearly programme of expert-led external ecology courses designed for students and professional ecologists, both independently and also in partnership with CIEEM.
