The Ecology Consultancy is delighted to have assisted St James in securing planning permission for the next phase of the Kennet Island development comprising 546 residential units with associated infrastructure and high quality landscaping. Kennet Island comprises part of the prestigious Reading Southside development located just to the north of the extensive Green Park Commercial Hub which is signified by the wind turbine visible from the M4 at junction 11. The consent is an important decision for St James and the Borough of Reading as will further improve the southern gateway into the town centre.
Ecology Consultancy carried out a full set of ecological surveys on the site which was once a sewerage treatment plant. Species found on site included grass snakes, ground nesting birds, and a diversity of invertebrates. The subsequent development proposals included creating new habitats for these species and other animals living in the adjacent Foudry Brook corridor, as well as dealing with the invasive species on site such as Japanese knotweed.
