In 2019, The Temple Group of companies embarked on another year of volunteering around the country.
The Ecology Consultancy (TEC) and Arbeco have volunteered on a variety of projects over the past 12 months, including a three-day small mammal trapping project as part of a wider initiative undertaken by The Mammal Society.
A small group from the Sussex and London offices took to the river for a day in the summer with the Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust team to clear the invasive parrot feather.
A day was also spent cleaning, fixing and re-positioning bat boxes in Finemere Woods, led by the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire Bat Group.
TEC volunteers also worked actively with ‘Putting Down Roots’ in the London Bridge area to maintain the public green spaces, watering plants, planting, fertilising and pruning.
In September, in support of the Global Climate Strike, the Wakefield office volunteered at Wintersett, a local nature reserve approximately three miles away from base. The team took part in some vegetation clearance works in order to open up the view for a bird hide, allowing the local ornithology community a chance to enjoy everything the site has to offer.
Temple staff were also busy in 2019 volunteering on a wide range of projects across the UK. These included One Manchester, a housing association that has set up a holiday kitchen in Moss Side in Manchester, to help provide children with a guaranteed nutritious meal in the school holidays.
Our Manchester team also volunteered at Manchester Central food bank helping to provide people in crisis with essential supplies.
Other members of the team donated their time by helping younger members of the community, Monica Lucas gave a career talk to LSE students on urbanisation and planning, and Stephen Glenny supported a local football festival as a qualified coach.
These are just a few of the incredible charities that we have had the honour of supporting through our staff volunteering programme this year. On behalf of the whole of The Temple Group, we would like to thank them all for the invaluable work that they do day in, day out.
Our volunteering vision for 2020
We will be running our internal volunteering programme again in 2020 and look forward to providing further support to local communities and the environment in the months to come.
