Working with Wildlife - CIRIA CPD course

Date: April 23, 2020
Time: 9:00 am  to  5:00 pm

**In light of the evolving situation surrounding COVID-19, this course will be rescheduled and a new date announced in the coming weeks. If you are already booked on to the course, CIRIA will get in touch with you directly.**

Summary

Are you working in the construction industry and concerned about your overall environmental performance? Are you managing a site and have wildlife issues to deal with, but few or no ideas about how to handle them? Then this is the training course for you.

Description

Most proposed developments will have some wildlife interest, whether they are situated in rural or urban areas. The most important wildlife sites are usually designated in some way and other sites may still have wildlife interest but are not designated or otherwise protected. In general, wherever there is some wildlife on a site, this should at least be acknowledged and the potential adverse impacts on it avoided if possible, or reduced to a minimum if not.

This one-day CPD training course, delivered by Principal Ecologist Rachel Saunders, will cover the following key areas:

  • background to ecology and construction
  • wildlife and development
  • legal aspects
  • ecological surveys
  • mitigation
  • sustainable development
  • taking the proactive approach

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand reasons for conserving wildlife, the legislative requirements, and what surveys may be necessary.
  • Increase your understanding of wildlife and the interface with development and construction projects.
  • Understand some of the wider commercial benefits of adopting a proactive approach to dealing with wildlife and biodiversity.
  • Obtain CPD accreditation.

This course has a value of 6 hours towards your CPD. Certificates will be sent to delegates following completion.

Who Should Attend?

Site managers, environmental managers and anyone concerned with managing wildlife on site.
