Managing Director

The Ecology Consultancy is looking for a new Managing Director to take the company forward and to ensure it achieves its ambitious 2020 Vision for growth. John Newton founder and current MD is due to retire in June 2016 and we are inviting applications for John’s replacement.

Its current work portfolio includes a wide range of interesting and demanding assignments both big and small including HS2, DP World, Crossrail 2, M25 Managed Motorways, Wey and Arun Canal and diverse clients from major contractors to landscape architects, local authorities and landowners. The Role

This is a unique opportunity to direct and control The Ecology Consultancy’s operations and to give strategic guidance and direction to the Board. The role will involve implementing and delivering The Ecology Consultancy’s 2020 Vision and the Annual Business Plans, carrying out periodic reviews as necessary and to demonstrate that the Company attains its objectives

You will be responsible for directing strategy towards the profitable growth and efficient operation of the company and formulating and successfully implementing company policies, compliance with all health and safety and other statutory regulations.

You will nurture and develop the existing culture and to continue to establish a close working relationship with Temple Group whilst maintaining and building on the current level of success, including retaining key staff and ensuring job satisfaction amongst the whole team.

You will be responsible for meeting and exceeding the financial and operational performance identified in the business plans and continuing to improve the operational performance of the company. You will work closely with the Management Board and Senior Management Team to deliver Business Plans and related performance goals and maintain and develop the productive working environment established across the company and all its existing and future offices.

You will lead in enhancing TEC’s profile and reputation through thought leadership, prestigious awards, joint awards (with our clients/Temple) and professional articles. Other responsibilities will include maintaining a proactive stance in communications with the Chairman focusing on key opportunities and risks, Board actions and priorities and providing strategic advice and guidance to the Chair and the members of the Board and by representing TEC within the wider Temple Group board.

About You

Qualified to at least second degree level and with full membership of a relevant organisation e.g. CIEEM, IEMA etc with at least 15 years’ experience working in an environment related discipline preferably as an ecologist in an organisational leadership role.

Experienced in collaborating and working in partnership with other partner/sister organisations and in securing work on major assignments and through frameworks.

Experienced in providing specialist advice on biodiversity issues for clients on major assignments and work experience in many different sectors including infrastructure and property/development with and in depth knowledge of professional consultancy.

You’re an energetic and enthusiastic leader with excellent planning and organisational skills with a very high level of commercial and financial awareness, a strategic thinker with the vision and the ability to translate ideas into tangible positive results.
