The Ecology Consultancy - GIS Technician, London
Main purpose of job:
Responsibility for the production of high-quality maps, analysing field data, supporting GIS technicians and ecologists, providing training and developing innovative GIS focused tools including mobile mapping.
The role:
- Data management of project data for large scale infrastructure works following strict procedures, data standards and data QC
- Supporting the production of high-quality maps, including Environmental/Ecological maps for field survey work and reports
- Providing advice, support, advanced mapping to company quality standards for large scale infrastructure team.
- Supporting the GIS team in developing an in-house GIS training programme.
- Producing fee proposals for GIS work and providing information to support bids and tenders.
- To liaise and work proactively with our sister company the Temple Group.
Experience/Requirements of candidate:
- MSC/BSC in GIS or equivalent field
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in geo-information management systems together with experience in GIS and databases, including solid analytical experience, preferably within a consultancy. Minimum 2 years’ experience with ArcGIS suite
- Proficient with ESRI’s ArcGIS for server
- SQL experience and knowledge
- Metadata production and standards
- Advanced Mapping techniques including but not exclusive to data driven pages
- Geodatabase / schema development and management
- Model building (ESRI Model builder/ArcPy)
- Spatial analysis / Geoprocessing operations
- Image processing
- Intermediate to Advanced level user of Microsoft Excel / Access
- Communication and presentation skills
- Attention to detail and analytical working
Experience of the following would be a distinct advantage:
- Other remote sensing / GIS skills such as habitat suitability / connectivity mapping.

- Strong knowledge of ArcGIS (ArcGIS for Desktop and Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst); Strong knowledge of MS Office Systems, MS Access and VBA; Strong knowledge of Python; Knowledge of SQL and JavaScript Web App;
GIS professionals with environmental backgrounds (education or work) with habitat modelling experience and knowledge about ecological systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

- Starting salary on a scale: £22,000 - £33,000 p.a. (depending on qualifications and experience)
