History

The Ecology Consultancy originally started life as Ecological and Environmental Services, in 1992, and was set up by John Newton. He was one of the first ecological consultants to work closely with the construction industry and advised on best practice when working with wildlife on development sites.

From the beginning John attracted major clients including Costain and Skanska. When he simultaneously won three contracts to work on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, he knew it was time to take on a business partner, and brought in fellow experienced ecologist, Barry Nicholson.

John established Ecology Consultancy Ltd in 1999, with Barry joining the company soon after. From the outset they employed a team of ecologists and support staff. As the company grew John managed the head office in London, Barry worked from the Norwich office, and they eventually set up a third office in Lewes. Their expertise was called on for training, as well as consultancy work, and they worked closely with the publishing team at CIRIA to produce Working With Wildlife.

The company has grown from strength to strength and now has over 30 staff across the three offices working on projects throughout the UK.

For its tenth birthday in 2009 the company got a brand new look and adopted the trading name - The Ecology Consultancy.
