The Fat Walk, London
Our experience includes projects in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. We have worked both directly for wind energy companies and as sub-contractors to other consultancies.

Wind farms require sensitive handling if they are to have minimum impact on ecology. The Ecology Consultancy can help achieve this by providing discrete, efficient and accurate surveys and reports to back up planning applications.

Our team of experienced in-house ecologists are qualified to undertake the full range of ecological surveys necessary for wind farm proposals. These include bats and other mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians. We provide collision risk modelling where appropriate. Seven of our team are Natural England bat licence holders, and we also employ great crested newt, dormouse, and other protected species licence holders.

Our survey work follows best practice guidelines to ensure that data is robust and able to withstand scrutiny. We pride ourselves on keeping abreast of the latest research into wind farms and their potential effects on wildlife, particularly in relation to target groups such as birds and bats, as well as advances in survey techniques and technology.

Natural England guidance calls for greater use of automated bat detectors positioned in proposed turbine locations. At The Ecology Consultancy, we have a ready supply of these devices and other forms of equipment that can be deployed for considerable periods of time during surveys and monitoring. We are able to undertake post-survey analysis of the data generated in-house, and can provide a quick and easy summary of bat activity in the vicinity of the proposed turbines.

Our dedicated team of cartographers in the office produce all the necessary high quality plans and other visuals to accompany our reports, Environmental Statements and client submissions.
